Marine Products Corporation Awarded ISO 9001: 2000 Certification |
ATLANTA, Jul 23, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Marine Products Corporation (Amex: MPX) announced today that it has been certified ISO 9001: 2000 for its Chaparral Boats manufacturing facilities in Nashville, GA. Marine Products is a leading manufacturer of fiberglass boats under two brand names: sterndrive pleasure boats by Chaparral, including SS Sportboats, Sunesta Deckboats, and Signature Cruisers, and offshore sport fishing boats by Robalo.
Richard A. Hubbell, President and CEO of Marine Products, stated, "We are pleased to announce our ISO 9001: 2000 certification. During the week of April 29, 2002, Chaparral Boats began the audit process with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) as registrar. The audit proved very successful and on May 30, 2002 Chaparral Boats was awarded ISO 9001: 2000 certification for the design, manufacture and delivery of fiberglass boats. We believe that Marine Products is now the third marine holding company to have its flagship brand, Chaparral Boats, awarded the ISO 9001: 2000."
In many industries ISO certification is already pervasive. However, in an industry such as pleasure boat manufacturing, where few companies are certified, ISO registration is a sign of leadership.
James A. Lane, Jr., President of Chaparral Boats and Executive Vice President of Marine Products, stated, "Chaparral is the largest independent boat manufacturer and the second largest pleasure boat line certified ISO 9001: 2000, an international designation of superior design, manufacturing processes and customer service. This level of ISO certification surpasses previous designations; for example, ISO 9002 does not include the design phase and 9001: 1994 lacks the focus on customer satisfaction.
"For our customers, this certification is an additional guarantee of the quality and consistency of our boats. The success of our ISO program can be credited to a meticulous implementation over almost two years and a strong cooperation among all Chaparral employees."
DNV will periodically conduct follow-up audits of the Chaparral facilities to maintain certification.
